Calling all entertainment designers! Here is a quick preview of some of the sessions we will be offering at the fourth annual Vectorworks Design Summit. Don’t miss your chance to learn from these influential designers.

Concept to Previz Workflow
Vickie Claiborne

PRG product specialist, author, and lighting design expert Vickie Claiborne will use her design experience to highlight techniques for using Vectorworks in the creative process. Her presentation will include conceptual designs through finished plots, the previsualization workflow, and the practical workflow using Vectorworks tools to export lighting patch information to the GrandMA2 console and reports to Lightwright.

Design Visualization for Entertainment
James Simpson

James Simpson, lighting visualizer at the Royal Opera House, will discuss the benefits of design visualization for producing opera and ballet by improving the efficiency, speed, and quality of the finished production. He will also explain how new technology, like virtual and augmented reality, could have a significant impact on entertainment design in the future.

 

Stanford Klaers
Michael Klaers, The Small Group, and Patrick Stanford, Conviana

Killer Worksheets – Basic
Michael Klaers and Patrick Stanford

In this session, lighting designers Michael Klaers from The Small Group and principal Patrick Stanford from Covianawill cover different uses for worksheets; the difference between spreadsheet cells and database rows, records, and fields and how they can be used in worksheets and databases; entering and editing formulas; creating and reusing worksheets; and using the create report command to generate a worksheet with a database. This hands-on class is intended for users with basic experience using Vectorworks worksheets or another spreadsheet program.          

Advanced users can attend a similar session the next day.

The General Device Type Format (GDTF) and How to Add It to Your Workflow

Remember the new data format we launched in March for a more unified definition of exchange of device data between consoles, computer-aided design, and previz software? This session will show you how to add it to your workflow. Teresa Hull from Visual Workhorse will demonstrate how GDTF is a game-changer for designers, programmers, and electricians who use Vectorworks in their workflows.

Scenic Design for Entertainment
Kevin Lee Allen

Emmy award-winning designer Kevin Lee Allen, founder of Kevin Lee Allen Design, will take you through the design and documentation process in this hands-on workshop. Using provided file(s), attendees will create a simple set with complex details that apply to theater, film, television, and experiential design.

Integrating Vectorworks Into the Lighting, Planning, and Workflow of Film and Television
Scott Barnes and Joshua Thatcher

Go to the big screen with freelance lighting designers Scott Barnes and Joshua Thatcher, who will discuss how Vectorworks is vital to the planning and workflow process in a lighting department. Barnes will discuss how he used Vectorworks in his lighting workflows for some of Hollywood’s biggest motion pictures, such as “Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2,” “The Conjuring 2,” “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”
